Moxibustion / Moxa Therapy in Zürich
Moxa therapy belongs to the classical therapy pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The word moxibustion is composed of the Japanese word “mog(u)sa” (mugwort herb) and the Latin word “combustio” (burning). Mugwort has been considered an effective healing herb for thousands of years in many Far Eastern healing teachings, as well as in the West.
Gentle warmth for the meridian points: “Moxing
In moxibustion, certain meridian points are heated by the embers from the moxa herb. The combination of heat and the medicinal herb mugwort is attributed to the special healing power of the therapy. By increasing the temperature of the skin area, blockages and stagnations in the flow of energy (Qi) are balanced and also acts against excess cold in the body.
The effect of moxa therapy:
- Moxibustion removes dampness and expels cold and brings warmth to the body.
- During moxibustion, tissue blood circulation is significantly increased and muscle tension is released.
- It removes the blockage of the vital energy Qi and ensures that the energy can flow freely again.
- Moxing strengthens the immune system and thus improves the healing and regeneration of (serious) diseases.
- When the body is weak and tired, the therapy helps to rebuild strength and vigor.
These multiple therapeutic effects make moxa therapy a valuable therapeutic all-rounder in Traditional Chinese Medicine. For ailments and diseases caused by dampness, cold energy or yin deficiency, moxibustion therapy has proven to be particularly effective.
Proven applications of moxa therapy include:

How does a moxa treatment work?
During moxibustion, the TCM therapist burns a so-called moxa stick, moxa cigar or moxa cone and either holds it over the selected acupuncture point or places it on the acupuncture point. The burning moxa has no direct contact with the skin. Therefore, the treatment is in no way uncomfortable or even painful.
